Welcome to our introductory Newsletter article! In this FAQ, we will cover the basics of setting up a Newsletter campaign, its benefits, best practices, and more.
What is the NewsBreak newsletter?
Aside from advertising in-app, NewsBreak’s Ad Manager just rolled out the ability to purchase traffic in our newsletter on your own. This newsletter is unique because it provides locally relevant information to our users on a national level; Top benefits include access to a whopping 40M subscribers across the US and expansion to desktop traffic (previously limited to mobile).
✍️Note: Event tracking is not required to set up this type of campaign!
How to set up a Newsletter campaign
- Access Ad Management.

Create a new campaign.
- Begin by creating a new campaign with the 'Reach' objective for CPM and click save.
- Alternatively, begin by creating a new campaign with the 'Traffic' objective for CPC and click save.
- Name your ad set and choose “Newsletter” as your platform placement.

Select your targeting.
- You can build an audience based on location only.

Define how long you want your campaign to run.
- Note that you can run your ads on specific days and times of the week with our dayparting feature.
- Also, newsletter campaigns are scheduled two days in advance, so any changes made to your settings will take 2 days to apply.

Set your budget.
- Enter your preferred budget, keeping in mind the minimum daily budget is $100, with a minimum bid rate of $2 per 1,000 email opens (CPM) and $0.20 per click (CPC).

Fill in your creatives and save.

Build your ad by adding a headline, description, and image. Note that we only support images and logos are required.
- Creative specs for image: ideally 1200x600, max size is 5M
- Creative specs for logo: height must be 28px, max width 200px

✍️ Note: If you select CPC, your daily budget may not spend in full within the first 2 days of delivery (this limit in spending is due to the cold start period where our system searches for the best users).
Best Practices

Campaign Set-up
- Test A: Run one ad set with 2-5 creatives
- Test B: Create one ad set per creative

Budget
- Suggest starting with $2 CPM and increase based on performance
- Suggest starting with $0.20 CPC and increase based on performance

Timing
- If you set up a newsletter to run consecutive days, consider adding a frequency cap (for example, 1 frequency cap for every 5 days)

Adjust Delivery
- Set your frequency cap on the same day to 1 send per day

Try it out yourself
- If you want to receive an email including your ad, you can add yourself to the email CC

Creatives
- City and state macros are supported on Newsletter, so make sure to take advantage of that in your ad copy

CTR benchmark is around 0.4% and on high days the CTR could reach up to 0.75%.
